As weird as it might seem, you can actually cleanse your skin with straight honey and may find shocking results with that one simple and inexpensive change to your skin care routine. If you have heavy makeup on, you may want to add a little oil to your honey to effectively remove it, and use straight oil for eye makeup. I find coconut oil, olive oil, and grape see oil work well to remove eye makeup, and all are great for your skin. I actually find, however, that honey alone removes my foundation just fine.
Honey is an excellent base for any mask. Use it alone or add other natural ingredients you probably have in your kitchen. Try one or more of these ingredients mixed with about a 1/2 tablespoon of honey, leave on anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, the longer the better. Rinse and apply a safe and natural moisturizer or night cream.
Known as a natural skin brightener, use lemon to rid your skin of dark spots, skin discoloration and stretch marks. Lemon is also great for exfoliating, removing blackheads, and to treat sunburn. The juice of half a small lemon is plenty to add to a facial mask.
Especially great for dry skin, avocado deeply moisturizes.
This wonder fruit provides a vast array of benefits to your skin. Vitamin C and B6 help provide a youthful glow, vitamin A restores moisture and repairs damaged, dull and dry skin. Potassium hydrates and moisturizes. Lectins prevent acne by guarding against bacteria. Vitamin A fades dark spots, blemishes and scars. Vitamin B reduces the appearance of wrinkles and lightens skin tone. Vitamin E fights free radical damage, prevents wrinkles and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Try one small or a half of a large ripe banana mixed with 1/2 tablespoon honey.
Beta hydroxy is a naturally occurring lactic acid found in milk, which gently exfoliates and evens skin tone. Vitamin A contains retinol and beta-carotenes which improve the overall look and feel of your skin. Considered a miracle ingredient, it is commonly found in skin products. Vitamin D is an antioxidant, which helps with skin cell growth. It is also used to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, though safe sun exposure is the best source of vitamin D. Mixed with a 1/2 tablespoon of honey, about 1 teaspoon of milk is all you need.
Anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial. Nutmeg is used to treat acne, eczema and other skin conditions, as well as reduce acne scars. About a 1/4 teaspoon is about all you need if adding to honey for a mask.
Great for oily, as well as acne prone skin. Cinnamon dries skin and acne, and brings blood, oxygen and nutrients to the surface. Topically applied cinnamon causes minor swelling and plumping, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Try about 1/4 teaspoon to a half tablespoon of honey.
* CAUTION: Both nutmeg and cinnamon can irritate the skin, and should be used with caution on sensitive skin. Test a small area, leaving on skin for no more than 30 minutes before applying to entire face. It should not be used more than once a week.
Not Just Any Honey, Raw Honey
Raw, unfiltered, unprocessed honey is best. It has the highest therapeutic value providing the most effective benefits for both topical application and consumption. Avoid common grocery store brands or anything labeled "Grade A". These brands have been cooked at high heat, removing the beneficial properties of the honey.
Dark Vs. Light Honey
Dark hued honey contains the highest level of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. According to a study done by scientists at the University of Illinois, dark colored Illinois buckwheat honey was found to contain 20 times more antioxidants than the lightly colored California sage honey.
In general, the darker the honey, the more intense the flavor. However, if you don't care for the bolder taste of darker honey, you can still use it topically for the most benefit to your skin. I, personally, am not a fan of any honey for its flavor, but keep a bottle of dark raw honey in my bathroom cabinet for my skin.
Where to Find Raw Honey
Here is a list of raw honey that Amazon consumers love. And since it's sold on Amazon, it's likely to be the lowest price you'll find.
I am including a couple of dark honeys for their high levels of antioxidants and antibacterial properties, as well as a couple of lighter ones that are well liked by consumers.
Manuka honey is a dark honey that is well-known for its medicinal benefits. Some call manuka honey a "wonder of nature" because it has such high antibacterial power. It is produced by bees who pollinate the manuka bush in New Zealand.
This Wedderspoon Manuka Honey and others in their premium line of manuka honeys are not genetically modified, are antibiotic free, unpasteurized, and each batch can be traced directly back to the beekeeper.

I have two jars of this honey. I used the first on my wife's wounds following MOHS surgery for removal of skin cancer. The results were amazing and the surgeon and plastic surgeon both asked what we were using to allow the wounds to heal up so quickly with minimal scarring. There was also a staph infection as a result of the surgery that the honey took care of as well.
I purchased this honey with the intention of healing my stomach which has been in a shambles for 20 years. I've been on every Rx antacid known, the last being Aciphex which is very strong and costs me $167 for 30 pills with insurance. I tried this honey after reading of its capabilities but believing that it was just a high priced scam, but I'm desperate for releif so I spent the $28. 3 days after eating 1 tsp on bread per day my stomach pain was gone. I couldn't beleive it.
It calms my heartburn, helps my digestion, reduces nausea associated with IBS, and I've used it on a skin infection with great success. All while being completely natural and delicious.
Buckwheat honey is a dark, thick honey rich in antioxidants with a strong molasses taste. This company encourages the use of Winter Park Buckwheat Honey for colds and coughs instead of over-the-counter medicines.
Testimonials on this company's website claim that consuming this honey has helped with everything from relief from allergies, to arthritis, to helping with the symptoms of celiac disease. Topically, it aids in healing wounds.
The squeeze bottle packaging makes this more convenient to use than many brands of raw honey.

This honey is rich and dark. Tastes similar to molasses. Worked well as cough suppressant when my daughter was sick.
I read that it could help with a cough on a natural health remedies website. My dad had a bad cough and took one tablespoon before bed. He claimed it work.
It kept my children from getting sick . . . Once my children stopped taking it, they got sick. I gave it to them and within 2 days they were well. It helps them sleep at night too.
The label on Nature Nate's Honey states that it is 100% pure, raw and unfiltered. However, the honey isn't crystalized and, therefore, not as thick as many raw honeys. Nature Nate's says their honey is heated just enough to remove the wax and bee parts, while keeping all nutritional enzymes and pollens intact.
This is one of two honey's in this list that is packaged in a squeeze bottle. Keep a bottle in your bathroom cabinet and simply squeeze some into the palm of your hand to cleanse your face or create a mask.

Is is great as tea sweetener, spread on bread with butter... or just a tablespoon every morning for health benefits. I heard that one tablespoon a day can keep allergies away. I don't have any alergies, so I can't tell, but I would not be surprised.
AMAZING ALL-NATURAL PRODUCT! Huge thanks to Amazon for the great price!
The darker the honey the better, I believe. This is a great product. If you check the label of some products, it's not even honey, like in those little sugar bear bottles. Many of them contain corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial flavorings.
Raw Honey . . . For Inside and Out
So get yourself some raw honey. Eat up for the health of your insides and slather up for beautiful, glowing skin.
