The Most Popular Baby Shampoo

If you've ever researched the ingredient list of Johnson & Johnson, the most iconic baby shampoo in the universe, you're totally smart to dig deeper for a shampoo that won't harm the health of your precious little one.

My mom used Johnson's on me and, admittedly, I used it on my babies (WAY back when they were babies) because ... who knew?! Who knew the fragrance alone can cause allergies, immunotoxicity, organ system toxicity and more?

What You Put On Your Baby's Skin Affects Their Health

In case you didn't know, what you put on your child's skin, good or bad, leaches into their skin, into their bloodstream and then creeps into their little tiny organs. Occasional invasion of harmful chemicals may never make a noticeable difference, but over time, continued use of toxic products can take their toll and cause a large array of health problems including everything from brain development to hormone disruption to cancer. It's no joke what you introduce to your baby's skin and body, and that's not even considering how much bath water your toddler decides to drink!

Johnson Removes Formaldehyde & 1,4 Dioxane

In defense of Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo, in 2014, pressure from consumers and environmental groups spurred Johnson removed Formaldehyde and 1,4 Dioxane from their baby shampoo formula. Yeah you read that right. Formaldehyde. I can't even fathom how a chemical used in pesticides and embalming dead people could ever be in a product that gets slathered all over infants. But kudos to Johnson's for removing it . . . albeit very quietly, as if this hideous "ingredient" were never there to begin with. Leave it to The New York Times to inform us about the removal of these chemicals. (To date Johnson's Baby Shampoo rates 4 on the EWG Skin Deep Database. 10 is the most toxic rating, so a 4 is not horrendous, but not great either.)
